A brief history
The current DISIT library was founded in 1995 as the Library of the Faculty of Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences of the University of Turin and was based in via Cavour 84, in the Borsalino office building.
The bibliographic heritage includes texts for research and teaching relating to the various disciplinary areas (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics and Environmental Sciences) covered by the study courses.
In the summer of 2004, the Library changed location and moved to the new building in Viale Teresa Michel 11, in the Orti district.
The documentary heritage was enriched in 2005 by the substantial donation of the specialized chemistry library of Solvay Solexis (still being processed).
In January 2009 it moved to its final location, also in via Teresa Michel 11, and occupies approximately 1000 square metres with spaces open to the public, warehouses and offices.
Over the years, the library has added to the paper collections a substantial patrimony in electronic format, consisting of databases, e-books and electronic periodicals, which have allowed it to become an important research centre also at the disposal of the region and its community.
